Russian Brass plaquette icon Depicting Madonna of the Unburned Thornbush.
Mary is depicted in the center with the Christ Child. Surrounding her are many angels representing various elemental powers sich as rain, snow, lightning, and fire. The "Unburned Thornbush" icon was an early form of fire protection. It was used not only to ward off fire from a home but was also held up to stop a fire once it had begun.

The Epitaphios - Fine Russian Orthodox Plaschanitsa Cloth icon.
heavy velvet cloth decorated with gilt silver and silver thread with central figures painted on canvas.
The Epitaphios (Greek: Επιτάφιος, Russian: Плащаница, plashchanitsa) is an icon, most often found as a large cloth, embroidered and often richly adorned, which is used during the services of Great Friday and Holy Saturday. The icon depicts Christ after he has been removed from the cross, lying supine, as his body is being prepared for burial. The scene is taken from the Gospel of St. John 19:38-42. Shown around him, and mourning his death, are his mother; John the beloved disciple; Joseph of Arimathea; and Mary Magdalene, as well as angels.
