Documented theca with relics of St Gertrude the Great

Oval brass glass-fronted theca housing first class ex ossibus relic of Saint Gertrude the Great. The relic is  affixed to a red silk background, surrounded by twisted wire and titled on a paper cedula label as Ex Oss. S. Gertrudis V. (from the bone of Saint Gertrude, Virgin).  On the back, the theca is secured by a seal of red wax with imprint of a coat of arms of Cardinal Gaetano Alimonda († 1891), Archbishop of Turin (1883-1891). The theca is accompanied by the original matching authentics document issued and hand signed by Monsignor Alimonda in 1887,

Saint Gertrude the Great († ca. 1302) was a German Benedictine nun, mystic, and theologian. Patron of West Indies. Gertrude showed "tender sympathy towards the souls in purgatory" and urged prayers for them. She is therefore invoked for suffering souls in purgatory. In compliance with a petition from King Philip IV of Spain she was declared Patroness of the West Indies; in Peru her feast is celebrated with great pomp, and in New Mexico the town Santa Gertrudis de lo de Mora was built in her honor and bears her name.
