Reliquary theca with first-class relics of St. Clare of Assisi, founder of the Order of Poor Ladies

Small round glass-fronted metal theca housing a first-class ex ossibus (of the bone) relic of Saint Clare of AssisiThe relic is affixed to a red silk background surrounded by silver wire and gilt paperole ornamentation and identified in Latin on a typeset cedula label as Ex Oss. S. Clar. As.  (Of the bone of Saint Clare of Assisi). On the back, under a protective cap, the theca is secured by a seal of red Spanish wax with an imprint of a coat of arms of the Franciscan Order.

Saint Clare of Assisi († 1253) is an Italian saint and one of the first followers of Saint Francis of Assisi. She founded the Order of Poor Ladies, a monastic religious order for women in the Franciscan tradition, and wrote their Rule of Life, the first set of monastic guidelines known to have been written by a woman. She is a patron of Eye disease, goldsmiths, laundry, television, embroiderers, gilders, good weather, needleworkers, Santa Clara Pueblo, Obando.
