1947 Documented theca with relics of St. Louis-Marie Grignion de Montfort

Oval glass-fronted silver reliquary theca housing the first-class ex ossibus  (of the bone) relic of St. Louis-Marie Grignion de Montfort. The relic is affixed to a ground of gold silk surrounded by gilt silver wire ornamentation and identified on a typeset cedula label as Ex Ossibus Montfort (of the bone of [St. Louis-Marie Grignion de] Montfort).  On the back, under the protective cap, the theca is secured with a seal of red Spanish wax bearing an imprint of a coat of arms of Fr. Antoine-Marie Cazaux (†1975), Bishop of Luçon, France (1941-1967). The relic is accompanied by the original matching authentics document issued and signed in 1947 (the year of his canonization) by Bishop Cazaux.

St. Louis-Marie Grignion de Montfort (†1716) was a French Roman Catholic priest, confessor, and religious writer. Montfort is considered one of the notable writers in the field of Mariology, writing several books that became classic Catholic titles and influenced several popes. His most notable works regarding Marian devotions are contained in Secret of the Rosary and True Devotion to Mary. He was canonized on 20 July 1947 by Pope Pius XII. A "founders statue" created by Giacomo Parisini is located in an upper niche of the south nave of St. Peter's Basilica. His feast day is celebrated on 28 April.
