Russian Icon - Miracle of Archangel Michael with Florus and Laurus

Twin brothers Saints Florus and Laurus are venerated as Christian martyrs buried alive in an empty well for their faith in the 2nd century. They are considered the patrons of horses in Russia and on their Feast day the Russian peasants lead their horses around the church to honor the Saints. The center figure at the upper part of the image depicts the Archangel Michael holding the Holy Mandylion, on his sides are Saint Spiridon and Saint Blais, further out – Saints Florus and Laurus. Bottom part of the icon is depicting a “horse guardian” riders chasing a herd of horses.
