Мощевик с мощами Святого мученика Иоанна Воина

ca. 1600 life-size bust-form reliquary made of painted wood housing very large historically important first-class ex ossibus (of the bone) relic of Saint John the Warrior. The relic is affixed inside of an oval glass-fronted opening and identified on paper cedula label in as S. Ioanis M. (Saint John, Martyr). The saint's name is also inscribed on the base of the bust. The saint is depicted wearing the unique helmet that was made for Guidobaldo II, Duke of Urbino, indicating that the reliquary most likely came from the church in Fossombrone, Italy built around 1609 by Francesco Maria II della Rovere, the last Duke of Urbino and son of Guidobaldo II.

Saint John the Warrior was a Christian saint and martyr who was born in the 4th century and lived in the Byzantine Empire. Forced by Julian the Apostate to serve as a warrior against Christianity, he was imprisoned after being caught helping people in need and defending Christians. St. John the Warrior is regarded as a helper in sorrow and poverty, against theft and to reobtain stolen items. He is a Patron Saint of imprisoned people and people held against their will.
