The icon depicts the Miracle of Saint Michael the Archangel teaching the twin brothers Saints Florus and Laurus how to control horses and understand their language. The center figure at the upper part of the icon depicts the Archangel Michael standing with his arms raised flanked by Saints Modestus, Blais, Florus, and Laurus. The bottom part of the icon is depicting a Cappadocian groom drive a herd out to pasture. Saints Florus and Laurus were worshipped in Russia as the patron saints of horses. The Russian Orthodox Church commemorates the two brothers on 31 August, when horses were traditionally decorated with garlands of flowers and even blessed in special church services held in their honor.
