Pair of Russian Icons - Our Lady of Smolensk & St. Nicholas of Myra

A scarce matching pair of so called wedding icons. Traditionally, the wedding pair consisted of an image of Our Lady of Kazan and Christ Pantocrator, but regional variations existed, such as this one depicting Our Lady of Smolensk & St. Nicholas of Myra. The St. Nicholas' icon would have been presented to the newleweds by the family of a groom, and the icon of the Theotokos by the family of the bride. the wedding pair was kept in the family through the entire life serving as the nucleus of the family praying corner.
