Reliquary theca with relics of Saints Gaetano and Andrew of Avellino

Oval crystal-fronted silver theca dating to the 18th century and housing relics of Gaetano dei Conti di Thiene (†1547) and St. Andrew Avellino (†1608). The relics are affixed to the background of multicolor silk and identified as S. Caiet. Thi and S. And. Au.. The theca is secured by a seal of red Spanish wax.

Saint Andrew Avellino († 1608) was an Italian saint. Born at Castronuovo, a small town in the province of Potenza Basilicata, his baptismal name was Lancelotto, which out of love for the cross he changed into Andrew when he entered the Order of Theatines. He is a patron of Naples, Sicily and invoked against sudden death.


Saint Gaetano dei Conti di Thiene (†1547) was an Italian Catholic priest and religious reformer, who helped found the Congregation of Theatines. Saint Cajetan was beatified in 1629 and canonized in 1671. His feast day is celebrated on August 7. He is  patron saint of bankers; gamblers; unemployed people; workers; non-gamblers; document controllers; job seekers; ; Albania; Italy; Ħamrun(Malta); Argentina; Brasil; El Salvador; and Guatemala.
