Dutch reliquary theca with relics of Jesuit Saints - St. Peter Canisius & St. John Berchmans

Oval glass-fronted silver reliquary theca housing pre-canonization first-class relics of two Jesuit saints: Saint Peter Canisius and Saint John Berchmans. The relics are affixed to a pink background and identified on typeset cedulae labels as B. Canisii / V. Berkmani. (the Blessed Canisius / Venerable Berchmans).  On the back, under a protective cap with an image of the female saint, the theca is secured by a seal of red Spanish wax with an imprint of a coat of arms of the Jesuit Order.

Saint John Berchmans SJ (Dutch: Jan Berchmans)(†1621) was a Jesuit scholastic and is a saint in the Catholic Church. His spiritual model was his fellow Jesuit Aloysius Gonzaga, and he was influenced by the example of the English Jesuit martyrs. Berchmans is the patron saint of altar servers, Jesuit scholastics, and students. He was beatified in 1865 and canonized in 1888. His feast day is commemorated on 13 August. 

Saint Peter Canisius SJ (Dutch: Pieter Kanis)(†1597) was a renowned Dutch Jesuit Catholic priest who is venerated in the Catholic Church as a saint and as a Doctor of the Church. He became known for his strong support for the Catholic faith during the Protestant Reformation in Germany, Austria, Bohemia, Moravia, Switzerland, and the British Isles. The restoration of the Catholic Church in Germany after the Protestant Reformation is largely attributed to the work thereof the Society of Jesus, which he led. He was beatified in 1864 and canonized in 1925. His feast day is commemorated on 21 December.
