Russian Icon - The Resurrection and Descent to Hades (Anastasis)

The icon is depicting Anastasis - Scenes of Christ's Resurrection and Descent to the Hades painted in traditional style. The reverse of the panel with red painted inscription in Russian reading: "This icon was restored with zeal at the request of Vitaly Nikolaevich Fal'kovsky, by the icon painter Alexander Sergeevich Andrianov in 1892 in the Mit'kovki suburb.”

Christ is shown in two scenes – above in the act of Resurrection and below in his descent into Hades, breaking down the doors of Hell, binding Satan and rescuing Adam and Eve. Behind them follow the kings, the prophets, and the righteous of the Old Testament,  David and Solomon wearing the crowns, John the Baptist with the scroll in hand.
