Russian Icon - Our Lady of Terebensk

The icon of the Terebinsk Mother of God takes its name from the place where it was kept - the Terebinsk-Nikolaev Hermitage in the Province of Tver. It became miracleworking in 1654 when it supposedly helped to end a plague of cholera. The Mother is shown in the orans position (arms raised at her sides, palms facing the viewer); the full-bodied child before her breasts stands with feet apart and arms outstretched to the sides. Rare iconography!
