Theca with relic of Saint Clare of Assisi

Oval glass-fronted metal reliquary theca housing ex cineribus (of the ashes) relic of Saint Clare of Assisi. The theca is decorated with a twisted wire oranmentation and the relic is identified on a paper cedula as Ex Cin[eribus] Corp[us] S. Clar[ae] As[iniensis]. The theca is secured on the back with a seal of red Spanish wax with inprint of a coat of arms of a Catholic Bishop. 

Saint Clare of Assisi († 1253) was one of the first followers of Saint Francis of Assisi and the founder the Order of Poor Ladies, a monastic religious order for women in the Franciscan tradition, who wrote their Rule of Life, the first set of monastic guidelines known to have been written by a woman. She is a patron of Eye disease, goldsmiths, laundry, television, embroiderers, gilders, good weather, needleworkers, Santa Clara Pueblo, and Obando.
