Saint Francis Borgia, S.J., 4th Duke of Gandía (Francisco de Borja) (†1572) was a Spanish nobleman, Jesuit priest, and third Superior General of the Society of Jesus. A descendant of the infamous Borgia family, he initially served as Duke of Gandía and Viceroy of Catalonia. After his wife’s death in 1546, he renounced his titles, joined the Jesuits. Known for his humility, asceticism, and missionary zeal, he revitalized the Jesuit order, establishing colleges and missions. He was canonized in 1671 by Pope Clement X, his feast day is celebrated on October 10.

Round glass-fronted white-metal reliquary theca housing the first-class ex ossibus (of the bone) relic of Saint Francis Borgia. The relic is affixed to a red silk ground and identified in Latin on a typeset cedula label as S. Francisci Borgia (Saint Francis Borgia). On the back, under the protective cap, the theca is secured with a seal of red Spanish wax bearing an imprint of a coat of arms of the Jesuit Order. The relic is accompanied by the original matching authentics document issued and signed in 1989 by the Postulator General of the Order responsible for the cause of beatification and canonization.
