Reliquary theca with relics of Bl. Albertinus of Fonte Avellana, Prior-General of the Camaldolese Order

Large oval brass theca with glass front and back housing unusually large (35 x 30 mm) ex ossibus (of the bone) first-class relic of the Blessed Albertinus of Fonte Avellana, Prior-General of the Camaldolese Order. The relic is affixed to a silver wire brokade star on a background of gold silk. It comes with original note on the back with the following text: Ex ossibus B. Alberti Cof. Camald. Ex authentica theca Mon. vii S. Crucis de Saxoferrato. (From the bone of Blessed Albertinus, Confessor of Camaldolese, from the authentic theca at the Monastery of the Holy Cross in Saxoferrato). According to the note, the relic originates from the Venerable Hermitage of the Holy Cross (also known as Fonte Avellana), a Roman Catholic hermitage in Serra Sant'Abbondio in the Marche region of Italy where Blessed Albertinus was a prior in the 13th century.  On the back, the theca is secured with a partially preserved red wax seal with a coat of arms of an unidentified Catholic bishop. 

Blessed Albertinus (†1294), was a Benedictine monk at of Fonte Avellana monastery in Serra Sant' Abbondio, Italy and Prior-General of the Camaldolese Order inspired by the eremitical life led by the Eastern monks and the Fathers of the Desert. Albertinus died in 1294 and was buried in the Church of Fonte Avellana, where he still rests today. He was Beatified by Pope Pius VI and his feast day is celebrated on April 13.
