Reliquary theca with relics of Saint Praetextatus, Martyr (Saint Prix)

Oval  glass-fronted brass theca housing very large (27 x 15 mm!) first-class ex ossibus (of the bone) relic of Saint Praetextatus, Martyr.The relic is affixed to a purple background and titled on a handwritten cedula label as S. Praetextati M. (St. Praetextus, Martyr). On the back, under the protective cap, the theca is secured with a perfectly preserved red wax seal with a coat of arms of a Catholic bishop.

Saint Praetextatus (†586), and known as Saint Prix, was a Martyr and the bishop of Rouen. He was killed by order of Fredegund, Queen consort of Chilperic I, the Merovingian Frankish king of Soissons,  whom he had often reproved for her wicked conduct. He died at his altar on 25 February and has been canonised by the Roman Catholic Church.
