Reliquary theca with relics of Saint Mariana of Jesus de Paredes, Patron Saint of Ecuador

Oval  glass-fronted pewter theca housing first-class pre-canonization relics of Saint Mariana of Jesus de Paredes.The relic is affixed to a multi-color silk background surrounded by golden paperole and twisted silver wire ornamentation and titled on a handwritten cedula label as B. Marianae V. (Blessed Mariana, Virgin).  On the back the theca is secured with a perfectly preserved red wax seal with a coat of arms of Bishop Nicola Angelo Maria Landini, O.E.S.A. (†1782), Titular Bishop of Parthyrion and Vicar General of the Vatican Curia.

Saint Mariana of Jesus de Paredes, O.F.S. (†1645), was a Roman Catholic saint and is the first person to be canonized from Ecuador. She was a hermit who is said to have sacrificed herself for the salvation of Quito. She was beatifiedby Pope Pius IX in 1853 and canonized by Pope Pius XII in 1950. She is the patron saint of Ecuador and venerated at the La Iglesia de la Compañía de Jesús in Quito.  She is also a Patron Saint the Americas; bodily ills; loss of parents; people rejected by religious orders; sick people; and sickness​. Her feast day is May 26.
