Reliquary theca with relics of Saint Francis of Assisi, Patron of Animals

Oval glass-fronted theca silver housing a first-class bone relic of Saint Francis of Assisi. The relic is affixed to a red silk background surrounded by silver wire ornamentation and identified on a manuscript cedula label as S. Franc. Assis.  On the back,  the theca is secured by a seal of red Spanish wax with an imprint of a coat of arms of the Order of Friars Minor.

Saint Francis of Assisi (†1226), was an Italian Roman Catholic friar and preacher who founded the men's Order of Friars Minor, the women's Order of Saint Clare, the Third Order of Saint Francis and the Custody of the Holy Land. Francis is one of the most venerated religious figures in history. He is a Holy Patron of animals; the environment; Italy; merchants; San Francisco, California, Naga City, Cebu, tapestry workers.
