Reliquary theca with relics of Saint Giuseppe (Joseph) Benedetto Cottolengo

Round glass-fronted silvered metal theca housing the first-class ex carne (of the flesh) relic of Saint Benedetto Giuseppe Cottolengo. The relic is affixed to a red silk background surrounded by paperolle ornamentation and identified on a typeset cedula label as Ex Carne / S. B. J. Cottolengo On the back,  under a protective cap, the theca is secured by a seal of red Spanish wax with an imprint of a coat of arms of Cardinal Maurilio Fossati (†1965), the Archbishop of Turin (1930-1965).

Saint Giuseppe (Joseph) Benedetto Cottolengo (†1842) was the founder of the Little House of Divine Providence known for his charity work in the Turin area of Italy. He was Beatified in 1917 by Pope Benedict XV and Canonized in 1934 by Pope Pius XI. His feast day is commemorated on April 30.
