1953 Documented reliquary theca with relics of Jesuit Saint Francis Xavier

Round gilt silver reliquary theca decorated around the perimeter with filigree and housing a precious second-class ex indumentis  (of the clothing) relic of Saint Francis Xavier. The relic is affixed to a red silk background and identified in Latin on a manuscript cedula label as S. Francisci Xav. C. (Saint Frances Xavier, Confessor).  On the back, under a protective cap, the theca is secured with a perfectly-preserved seal of red Spanish wax bearing an imprint of a coat of arms of Cardinal Clemente Micara (†), Vicar General of Rome (1951-1963) and Pro-Prefect of the Congregation of Sacred Rites responsible for Canonization of Saints (1953-1963). The relic is accompanied by an original matching authentics document issued and signed by Monsignor Micara in 1953.

Saint Francis Xavier, S.J., († 1552), was a Navarrese Basque Roman Catholic missionary, born in Xavier, Kingdom of Navarre (now part of Spain), and a co-founder of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits). He was a companion of St. Ignatius of Loyola and one of the first seven Jesuits who took vows of poverty and chastity at Montmartre, Paris in 1534.
