The upper register of the reliquary contains the following relics of the Holy Family arranged around the relics of the True Cross and flanked by large ex ossibus (of the bone) relics of two Martyrs: St. Pope Urban I & St. Gordios: stone relic from the Holy House of Loreto flanked by relics of Sts. Joachim and Anne - parents of the Virgin Mary; Relics of St. John the Baptist flanked by relics of His parents – Sts. Elizabeth and Zechariah. The relics of the True Cross are arranged in the center of the upper register and flanked by the stone relic from the Nativity Grotto and a stone relic from the Mount Calvary. The main register of the reliquary is housing relics of 356 Christian Saints and Martyrs arranged in twelve vertical columns (one for each month of the year) sequentially by their Feast day. All relics are identified in Latin on typeset paper cedulae labels.
The back of the frame is covered by a removable wooden panel that opens to expose the back of the reliquary secured by a seal of red Spanish wax with an imprint of a coat of arms of Fr. Giuseppe Maria Castellani, O.E.S.A. (†1854), Titular Archbishop of Porphyreon and the Sacristan of His Holiness, Pope Gregory XVI. The lower part of the frame showing the original matching authentics document issued and signed by Fr. Castellani in 1846.
This truly spectacular and extremely rare fully-documented artifact preserved in superb original condition is suitable for private and public veneration.
