1989 Documented theca with relic of St. Marcellin J.B. Champagnat, Founder of the Marist Brothers

Round glass-fronted white-metal reliquary theca housing the first-class Ex ossibus (of the bone) pre-canonization relic of Saint Marcellin Joseph Benedict Champagnat. The relic is affixed to a red silk ground and identified in Latin on a typeset cedula label as B. Marc. Champagnat (Blessed Marcellin Champagnat).  On the back, under a protective cap, the theca is secured with a seal of red Spanish wax bearing an imprint of a coat of arms of the Marist Brothers. The relic is accompanied by the original matching authentics document issued and sealed on 6 June of 1992 (on the day of his feast) by the Postulator General of the Order responsible for the Causes of Canonization.

Saint Marcellin Joseph Benedict Champagnat, FMS (†1840) was the founder of the Marist Brothers, a religious congregation of brothers in the Catholic Church devoted to Mary and dedicated to education. He was ordained as a priest on 22 July 1816 and was part of a group led by Jean-Claude Colin, who founded the Society of Mary, a separate religious congregation to the Marist Brothers teaching order Champagnat founded later. He was beatified in 1955 and canonized in 1999 by Pope John Paul II. He is considered a Patron saint of education, teachers, and simplicity and his feast day is 6 June.
