Reliquary theca with relic of St. Dominic de Guzmán, founder of the Dominican Order

Oval glass-fronted brass pendant reliquary theca housing first-class ex ossibus (of the bone) relic of Saint Benedict of Nursia. The relic is affixed to a red silk ground, surrounded by silver wire ornamentation, and identified in Latin on a manuscript cedula label as S. Dominici C. (Saint Dominic, Confessor). On the back, the theca is secured with a perfectly preserved seal of red Spanish wax bearing an imprint of a coat of arms of an unidentified Roman Catholic Bishop.

Saint Dominic (Spanish: Santo Domingo), also known as Dominic of Osma and Dominic of Caleruega, often called Dominic de Guzmán and Domingo Félix de Guzmán (†1221), was a Castilian priest and founder of the Dominican Order. He is a holy patron of Astronomers; astronomy; Dominican Republic; falsely accused people; Santo Domingo Pueblo, Valletta, Birgu (Malta), and Managua.
