1990 Documented reliquary theca with relic of St. Gaspare Bertoni, founder of the Congregation of the Sacred Stigmata

Small round glass-fronted white-metal reliquary theca housing the first-class ex ossibus (of the bone) relic of Saint Gaspare Bertoni. The relic is affixed to a red silk ground decorated with hand-painted floral ornamentation and identified in Latin on a typeset cedula label as S. Gaspar Bertono // ex ossibus (of the bone of Saint Gaspare Bertoni). On the back, under the protective cap, the theca is secured with a seal of red Spanish wax bearing an imprint of a coat of arms of the the Congregation of the Sacred Stigmata. The relic is accompanied by the original matching authentics document issued and signed in 1990 by the Postulator General of the Order responsible for the cause of beatification and canonization.

Saint Gaspare Luigi Bertoni (†1853) was a Catholic priest and founder of the Congregation of the Sacred Stigmata (Stigmatines). Ordained in 1800, he dedicated his life to serving youth, clergy, and the poor amidst the turmoil of the French occupation. Despite chronic illness and over 300 leg operations, he remained a spiritual guide, directing retreats and founding Marian Oratories. His deep faith, mystical experiences, and devotion to Christ’s Passion inspired his apostolic mission. He was beatified in 1975 by Pope Paul VI and canonized in 1989 by Pope John Paul II, his feast day is celebrated on June 12.
