New Arrival
Reliquary theca with relic of Sicilian Blessed James Philip of Girgenti, O.S.A.

Oval glass-fronted brass pendant reliquary theca housing the first-class ex cottoni ossibus (cloth containing fragment of the bone) relic of Blessed James Philip of Girgenti. The relic is affixed to a silk ground surrounded by gilt paperolle ornamentation and identified in Latin on a manuscript cedula label as B. Jacobi Philippi // Ex Cottoni Ossbv.  (Blessed James Philip // of the cloth containing the bone). On the back, under a protective cap, the theca is secured by a perfectly preserved seal of red Spanish wax bearing an imprint with a coat of arms of Fr. Antonio Cantoni (†1781), Bishop of Faenza, Italy (1742–1767) and Archbishop of Ravenna, Italy (1767–1781).

Blessed James Philip of Girgenti (†1456) was an Augustinian friar and bishop born in Girgenti, Sicily. Renowned for his humility, piety, and eloquent preaching, he joined the Order of St. Augustine and later served as Bishop of Patti. His life was marked by devotion to the poor and spiritual guidance, earning him a reputation for miracles. Beatified by Pope Leo X in 1513, his feast day is January 15. He is invoked for prudence and against temptation, remembered as a model of Christian virtue in Sicilian hagiography.
