The Eucharistic Martyrs of Casamari (†1799) were six Cistercian monks of the Abbey of Casamari in Italy, beatified for their martyrdom. The six Blessed martyrs — Siméon Cardon (prior) and his companieons Domenico Maria Zavřel, Albertino Maria Maisonade, Modesto Maria Burgen, Maturino Maria Pitri, and Zosimo Maria Brambat died defending the Eucharist during the Napoleonic era at the Casamari Abbey, a historic Cistercian monastery in Veroli, Italy. On the night of May 13, 1799, retreating French soldiers, fleeing after the fall of the Parthenopean Republic, burst into the abbey seeking plunder. While most monks fled, these six remained to protect and recover consecrated hosts scattered and desecrated by the troops. The soldiers brutally killed them in an act recognized as martyrdom in odium fidei (in hatred of the faith). They have been beatified on April 17, 2021, by Cardinal Marcello Semeraro and their feast is celebrated on May 16.
