Reliquary theca with relic of St Anne, Mother of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Oval silver-washed brass glass-fronted reliquary theca, containing ex ossibus first class relic of Saint Anne, Mother of the Blessed Virgin Mary and grandmother of Jesus Christ. The relic is surrounded by twisted wire ornamentation and affixed to a red silk background. It is titled on a paper cedula as S. Annae Mater B.V.M. (Saint Anne Mother of the Blessed Virgin Mary). Back of the theca is secured by a perfectly preserved seal of red Spanish wax with coat of arms of Luigi Fransoni († 1862) Archbishop of Turin (1832-1862). 

Saint Anne was the mother of Mary and grandmother of Jesus according to apocryphal Christian and Islamic tradition. She is a holy patron of Canada, carpenters; childless people; equestrians; grandparents; homemakers/housewives; lace makers; lost articles; Fasnia (Tenerife); Mainar; Detroit; miners; mothers; moving house; old-clothes dealers; poverty; pregnancy; seamstresses; stablemen; sterility; mothers; and children.
