Oval silver glass-fronted reliquary theca, containing first class ex ossibus (of the bone) relic of Saint Joachim, Father of the Blessed Virgin Mary, grandfather of Jesus Christ, and husband of St. Anne. The relic is surrounded by twisted wire ornamentation, affixed to a red silk background and identified on a paper cedula as Joachim Patris BVM (Joachim, father [of] the Blessed Virgin Mary). Back of the theca is secured by a perfecty preserved seal of red Spanish wax with a coat of arms of Italian Archishop.
Saint Joachim was the husband of Saint Anne and the father of Mary, the mother of Jesus, according to the Catholic, Orthodox, and Anglican traditions. The story of Joachim and Anne first appears in the apocryphal Gospel of James. His feast day is July 26.
