Reliquary theca with relic of St Justin, Martyr

18th century oval glass-fronted theca housing unusually large and important first class ex ossibus (of the bone) relic of Saint Justin Martyr. The relic is to a background painted red and titled on paper cedula as S. Justinae M. (Saint Justin Martyr). The back of the thecais secured by a perfectly preserved seal of red Spanish wax with a coat of arms of Italian Bishop.

 Saint Justin Martyr was an early Christian apologist, who is regarded as the foremost interpreter of the theory of the Logos in the 2nd century. He was martyred, alongside some of his students, and is considered a saint by the Roman Catholic, the Anglican, the Eastern Orthodox, and the Oriental Orthodox Churches.
