Theca with a relic of St Francis Solanus, O.F.M., Patron of South America

Oval glass-fronted silver reliquary theca housing relics of Saint Francis Solanus. The relics are affixed to a red silk background, surrounded by paperolle and twisted silver wire ornamentation and identified on a  paper cedula label as S. Fanc. Sol. (St. Francis Solanus]. On the back, under a protective cap, the theca is protected by a seal of red wax with a perfectly preserved imprint of a coat of arms of a Roman Catholic bishop.

Saint Francis Solanus O.F.M., (Francisco Solano y Jiménez) (†1610) was a Spanish Franciscan friar and missionary in South America, honored as a saint in the Roman Catholic Church. He was beatified by Pope Clement X in 1675 and canonized by Pope Benedict XIII in 1726. He is a Patron Saint of Argentina; Bolivia; Chile; Paraguay; Peru; and also against earthquakes. His feast day is commemorated on 14 July.
