Reliquary theca with relics of St. Joseph of Leonessa, Capuchin monk

Oval glass-fronted metal theca housing a second-class ex cilitio  (of the monk's hairshirt) pre-canonization relic of Saint Joseph of LeonessaA substantial relic is affixed to a red silk background surrounded by silver wire and gilt paperole ornamentation and identified in Latin on a manuscript cedula label as De cilitio Habitue B. Joseph a Leonessa  (from the hairshirt of the Blessed Joseph of Leonessa). On the back, the theca is secured by a seal of red Spanish wax with an imprint of a coat of arms of a Roman Catholic Bishop.

Saint Joseph of Leonessa, O.F.M. Cap., (Italian: Giuseppe da Leonessa) (†1612) is a saint of the Catholic Church and a Capuchin monk who preached to the poor and reconciled feuding families as well as warring cities which had been at odds for years. He was canonized by Pope Benedict XIV in 1746. His feast day is kept on February 4, within the Franciscan Order.
