Reliquary theca with a relic of St. Victoriana, Martyr

New Arrival
Reliquary theca with a relic of St. Victoriana, Martyr

Oval glass-fronted silver pendant reliquary theca housing the second-class Ex Ossibus (of a bone) relic of Saint Victoriana, Martyr. The relic is affixed to a gilt paper burst on a ground of silk, surrounded by a silver wire ornamentation and identified in Latin on a fancy manuscript cedula label as Ex Oss. S. Victorianae M. (of a bone of Saint Victoriana, Martyr). On the back, the reliquary is secured by the perfectly preserved seal of red Spanish wax with a coat of arms of Monsignor Giovacchino Limberti (†1874), Archbishop of Florence, Italy (1857–1874).

Saint Victoriana, a martyr of the early Christian Church, lived during the 3rd or 4th century in Rome. Little is known of her life, but she is venerated for her steadfast faith and ultimate sacrifice. As a Christian, she faced persecution under Roman authorities, refusing to renounce her beliefs despite severe trials. Her martyrdom, likely during the Diocletianic Persecution, exemplified her courage and devotion. Victoriana’s relics are preserved in the Church of Santa Maria della Vittoria in Rome, where her wax-enhanced remains inspire pilgrims. Her feast day is celebrated on December 23
