Glass-fronted silvered metal reliquary theca housing first-class ex ossibus (of the bone) relic of Saint Andrew Avellino. The relic is affixed to the background of gold silk and identified on a paper cedula as Ex Ossibus / S. Andreae Avellinie. The theca is secured on the back with a seal of red Spanish wax with an imprint of a coat of arms of a Catholic Abbot.
Saint Andrew Avellino († 1608) was an Italian saint. Born at Castronuovo, a small town in the province of Potenza Basilicata, his baptismal name was Lancelotto, which out of love for the cross he changed into Andrew when he entered the Order of Theatines. He is a patron of Naples, Sicily, and invoked against sudden death.
