Blessed María López de Rivas Martínez was a Discalced Carmelite nun known as María of Jesus Crucified. Orphaned at four, she was raised by her grandparents and joined the Carmelites in Toledo at 17, despite frail health. A close friend of St. Teresa of Ávila, she experienced mystical phenomena, including stigmata. Elected prioress, she faced false accusations, enduring 20 years of isolation with grace. Re-elected prioress in 1624, she led with humility until her death on September 13, 1640. She was beatified on November 14, 1976, and her feast day is September 13.
